X1 Enterprise Client X1 Enterprise Client

Search fails with enterprise level sharepoint 3 stars
I've been using X1 for several years and upgraded to 8.4.1 because of the advertised feature of being able to search SharePoint. I also added paid support. However, I am not able to search our Enterprise SharePoint. I thought there would be be a simple explanation, like it only works with some SharePoint configurations which is probably true. However, support has been very slow and unable to provide an answer. Otherwise it's a great tool, although this version doesn't seem to do anything more than the last version. In fact, I liked the interface of the older version better for viewing more results without scrolling. This version shows everything so large that I find myself scrolling a lot. Perhaps there is an option to shrink it, but I haven't found it. It does not respond to the standard windows zoom functions. If it searched SharePoint as advertised - easy 4 stars. If I could adjust the size of results - and have them persist, 5 stars. Again, X1 continues to be a great tool, the old version is a 5, this one 3 even though it does everything the old one did, but it doesn't satisfy deliver on the 'new features interface'. Registry Mechanic Registry Mechanic

Simple, effective, and better than many 5 stars
When I renewed my Spyware Doctor, I was offered a package deal. Having used and having many freeware scanners, I canceled and spent the next several hours evaluating the latest. Registry Mechanic excelled at finding problems. As I mentioned in my Spyware Doctor review, it really depends on what you're looking for, but I don't like PCTools simplistic interfaces. They don't let me get at stuff, save things, tweak, etc. (I'm considering jv16 Powertools for that, but it feels so MFCish ... but unlike PCTools, they provide family licensing) Anyway, this tool does a great job with (unfortunately) little to no effort on my part. Spyware Doctor (Demo) Spyware Doctor (Demo)

Second year renewal --- simple and effective. 5 stars
I deleted my review from Feb 2005. I've now renewed for a second year. Unusual for me, I'm a SW developer and switch packages frequently. I run this on a family computer and it does a great job with very little effort on my part. I also run a paid AdAware and freeware versions of others, like MS (previously Giant SW), SpyBot. Anyway, this is my favorite for effectiveness, and ease of use. I forget about it and it updates itself and just works. Could be because the family PC generates lots of low laying fruit. What prompted this update and my renewal was evaluating another package then having spyware doctor find a bunch of serious and undetected items. That said, I wish it had a better interface and features for someone that thinks they know what they are doing. Also, there is no family licensing. The questions I've asked of support were answered in a timely manner. Price: Free Trial ($29.95)

SpeedFan SpeedFan

Simple setup, excellent fan and temp monitor. 5 stars
I first tried [..] (having used it in the past), but couldn't get it working with my IBM NetVista 3607. This tool installed with no problems. It automatically detected various sensors and showed me what I wanted to see - temperature and fan speeds. It has several other features, but I didn't try them. Price: Free
