Avast Free Antivirus Avast Free Antivirus

Needs a scheduler but great aside from that 4 stars
I decided to test this program out after exclusively using AVGFree for the last year or so. It is very robust and thorough - however, my only complaint is that the free version doesn't allow you to schedule virus scans. Not a big deal if you can remember to manually run scans a few times a week. The default interface is quite ugly - but this is easily remedied by using a different skin (my personal favorite is the MacLover skin). Due to the lack of automatic scheduling, I haven't decided if I'll keep this as my default anti-virus scanner over AVG (which also has an ugly UI but at least has a scheduler). Even so, I'd highly recommend this program to anyone who doesn't mind the absence of a scheduling feature and wants a reliable (and best of all, free!) anti-virus program. Price: Free

SpamBayes SpamBayes

Catches 99% of my spam 5 stars
Have been using this program for about two weeks now. After organizing my mail folders in order to "teach" the program how to differentiate between good and bad mail - this program has been incredibly reliable in filtering out my high flow of spam. Very few mistakes since I've configured it (before configuration, or rather, out of the box, it flagged almost everything as spam). I'm very impressed with this program, especially given that it is freeware. Highly recommend. Price: Free
