ArGoSoft Mail Server ArGoSoft Mail Server

A good starter mail server 4 stars
ArGoSoft Mail Server (AMS) is a good beginner's mail server to introduce someone to the world of hosting your own email. It has a very small footprint, is extremely quick and easy to install, and generally crash-proof. But those used to the more advanced option available through free webmail sites will be somewhat disappointed. In particular, spam and viruses will need to be handled by 3rd party solutions or plugins. While there are a number of options available, they are not always the easiest to configure and generally don't work as well as the server itself. But if you are looking to host your own email for the first time, AMS is a great place to start and the prices are definitely hard to beat. Price: Free

IceWarp MERAK Mail Server IceWarp MERAK Mail Server

Full feature mail server 4 stars
Merak is a full featured mail server that serves in a collaborative environment well. It's main drawback is the information given to set up the server correctly. While this has improved with wizards to guide the way, there are still spots where the information needed is hard to find or missing altogether. The anti-spam features are well implemented and the security features are very good as well. The outlook connector client generally works well and the server is robust. In the past 2 years, I have not had a serious crash on my windows 2000/2003 server due to the merak software. I would generally recommend it for the more advanced user, not the beginning sysadmin. Price: Free Trial ($976.00)
