It can copy a DVD directly to another disc (if you have two DVD drives connected) or rip the disk and save it as Video_TS folder or ISO image file to your hard drive, ready to be burned to a DVD later. This was top notch at one time. It doesn't have all the fancy looking interface that some do, it may not even backup everything anymore, however, it was excellent and still is. I've had DVDs that won't backup due to scratches or bad data, dvd decrypter can skip bad data spots and make a possible working copy and has. It's not a one button click and go but it gives advanced options many would just scratch their head at. If you know how to work it, then you know it's potential.
