limit sound volume during movies Sound Lock enables you to limit the audio volume while watching movies or video clips. Most movies increase the audio volume during certain high impact scenes or commercials, which, in case of late night movie sessions, may wake up the kids or other family members. Sound Lock allows you to set a maximum volume level and automatically turns the volume down for you during the loud scenes and winds it back up after they finish, so you can continue to watch the movie without having to adjust the volume manually. The default settings will work for most scenarios but advanced users can also choose to apply Sound Lock only to certain audio channels or sound devices. Copyright Snapfiles.com

Indispensable 5 stars by finiderire Oct 23, 2012
Set Windows volume to maximum once for all then adjust volume with Sound Lock. This is especially useful if you watch movies which always need maximum volume then trash you ears when you are back to music listening. Just remember to reduce volume control as Sound Lock will be temporarily disabled when you shutdown Windows or run Audacity. show Review details
Worked great for movies 5 stars by gimpguy Sep 04, 2012 (Read all my 1159 reviews)
I tried this with Wrath of the Titans. We watch a lot of movies and at night, (when the wife is sleeping) I usually run over for louder parts of movies and have to turn it down, typically end up sitting in front of the PC to hear it. This worked wonders. It did keep the volume down during loud parts. Has some basic options, master or channel but regardless, it's extremely easy to use, free, saves me from having to run over to the volume control. show Review details
