This application is a working, simple DLNA server that you can turn on quickly to share media files across your network (and beyond). Navigation is file and directory based only, but you can select several useful ways to organize/display your files. Thanks to the programmer for this simple server without any bloat at all. It is now really easy for me to share directories on a windows machine and play files on TVs phones, tablets, etc. around the house. Price: Free

This is a fantastic little program that has all the power and flexibility to satisfy the most hardcore users. Anyone with a touch of programming skill who is comfortable writing scripts will be in 7th heaven, although most tasks will not require scripting at all. This one deserves all 5 stars. Nothing like tabs, plus dual-pane for drag-easy copying/moving. Very slight effort required in setting up the options to behave exactly how you need it to, but it is fully configurable - invest the 1 min required to do this. To me, this is the best file tool here, followed closely by Q-dir. Price: Free
