encrypt files before uploading them to cloud services CryptSync is a small utility that enables you to synchronize files between two folders while automatically encrypting the contents of the destination folder. The program is designed to be used file could service like Dropbox, Skydrive, Google Drive etc. and can add an additional layer of security to the files you store on third party servers (in the cloud). CryptSync acts as a middleman between your original files and the sync folder of your cloud service. Instead of placing files directly into your cloud folder (e.g. Dropbox), put them into your designated CryptSync folder, where they will be encrypted and then copied to your cloud folder. You can set up multiple folder pairs and automatically sync or mirror files every x minutes with the selected target folder. There are also options to scramble the file names and exclude files from being synched or encrypted. The program is not limited to cloud services, you can also use CryptSync to keep an encrypted backup of your important files on a USB stick or any other portable storage device. CryptSync uses standard (7-ZIP) AES encryption and the encrypted versions of your files are essentially encrypted and compressed 7-ZIP files. If you ever need to access your encrypted files directly from the cloud, you can save them locally and simple open them with 7-Zip or other AES compatible compression tools - of course you will need to provide the proper password.
