It offers a "Read" scan that will scan the entire disk and only report on bad sectors (if any) as well as a "Read + Wipe Damaged + Read" scan which will scan the entire hard drive surface to find bad sectors, if bad sectors are found, they will be overwritten, and read again to make sure they were written successfully. Beware that by wiping damaged sectors, some data may be lost. In addition to these scans, Hard Disk Validator also offers a "Write and Verify" option which will erase all of the data on the disk and verify that new data can be written successfully - be careful with this option since, unlike the first two, it will erase your disk. Hard Disk Validator works well and can be a useful tool to detect and repair hard drive problems, however you should use caution if you use any scan other than the "Read" test.
