While the virtual RAM drives are mounted, they can be accessed just like any other drive from Windows Explorer. Once you unmount a RAM disk, the content is deleted and the memory is released. The use of RAM disks is primarily useful for providing faster access to temporary data such as your Windows/Temp files or other non-critical data. Alternatively, SoftPerfect RAM Disk also allows you to create persistent RAM disks that are mounted from a disk image file, which allows you to save the files (and optionally any changes you made) to your hard drive whenever you unmount the RAM disk.
