Adobe have made the downloads and serial numbers which one might perceive as free Adobe have since released a statement which states:
"Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers.
While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers."

This one came as a surprise. I had used Photoshop in the past, and enjoyed using it. So when I saw they were offering this FREE on the Adobe site, I could not pass it up.
SPECIAL NOTE: ALL the items individually as well as a whole in the CS2 Suite are ALL available FOR FREE.
So yes, I HIGHLY recommend this item. As I said have been using Photoshop off and on for about 10 to 15 years.
Also, ANOTHER recommendation, go to the UPDATES area on Adbe and make sure to get the updates for this as well as any other CS2 programs you get. Photoshop AFTER updates should be at version 9.0.2.
ENJOY!!!
