IrfanView IrfanView

Must have 5 stars
For quick view and basic editing i cannot thing of a better option. Simple, fast and able to open and manipulate numerous formats. Excellent for batch jobs (scans, resizes, watermark adding). One needs two programs for image editing. Irfanview is the first. The other would be perhaps photoshop for more advanced editing. Must have also for web developers due to extremely fast and efficient crops, resizes, rotates and other basic editing. PS. Remember to install plug-ins package for more features. Price: Free

7-Zip 7-Zip

Simple and fast 5 stars
It is freeware open-source and good. Fast load/open, drag n drop and right-click shell integration. It opens large number of formats ZIP, 7Z, RAR, etc but only compresses to 2 major (zip and 7z) and some minor (linux found such as tar etc). 7z is starting to get more and more famous and it is quite efficient as well (even better than rar). Only downside, I would prefer if it could compress RAR archives (it only extracts them). Price: Free

CDBurnerXP CDBurnerXP

Very good and simple 5 stars
I missed the good old Nero which used to be small strait to the point. CDburnerXP is a very good, simple free program which can do almost everything i need. There is nothing i miss from Nero anymore. The interface is a little different. Notice 2 things: 1. You have to declare what CD type you are compiling by right clicking on the bottom bar (unless you have already the empty cddvd in the drive where it automatically detects its size). 2. To select WRITE SPEED manually (for better results) you need to press "let me choose advanced settings" option, just before you press OK. For XP boxes you need .NET framework installed. I use it on every Win 7 box i use. It is just fine. Price: Free

KeePass Password Safe KeePass Password Safe

Excellent and can make portable 5 stars
There are 2 different versions 1.XX (does not use .NET) and 2.XX uses .NET. I prefer 1.XX as it works on XP without .NET installed. After you install it on your hard disk you can copy on your flash drive the .exe file and the password file (the data you store your passwords). Very small, and secure. There are ports for Linux, windows mobile etc! Price: Free
