open-source video converter HandBrake is an open-source, multi-threaded video transcoder that allows you to convert various video formats to MP4(M4V) and MKV. It supports most popular video formats as well as VIDEO_TS folder, DVD image, real DVD or Bluray (unencrypted -- removal of copy protection is not supported), and some .VOB, .TS and M2TS formats.HandBrake comes with pre-configured output profiles including settings for iPods and AppleTV. Advanced users can also customize the encoding settings with several advanced options. Great conversion utility

HandBrake make it easy to do video conversions. They keep updating the software so it is good to see that that author is maintaining it and adding features. It has tons of video setting to match the type of video devices you may want to play a particular video on, so cool. Great Utility!

Fantastic smooth full featured free

I who know nothing about video processing reduced a video file from 14 MB to 1.4 MB in a few minutes, got great quality and had fun. Very intuitive program that gives me the security of knowing I ccan edit videos with the greatest of ease. Thank you to HandBrake. PS - I'd surely pay for this program.

Fast, easy to use converter

I'm surprised the editors have only rated Handbrake four stars. I've used other conversion programs in the past and all have worked reasonably well but Handbrake is by far the fastest and simplest to use. I use it to convert Quicktime MOV files to AVI files for use in Windows Movie Maker on Windows 7. It's worked flawlessly for me.
