Now my primary editor

Notepad++ just keeps getting better. I'm updating my post form 2010 which then I thought it was great but now it is even better, more secure and now is my primary editor. NPP is constantly being updated with new features, bug fixes, and language support. It covers all the popular programming lanugages and yes event Batch files text highlighting. The multiple tabs is a must and new tabs are maintained even though not technically saved. Two-Thumbs Up! and more!! Thanks to NPP team for all their work! Get it, use it, rate it!

Must-have replacement for notepad

This is always the first program to install on a new system. A solid text editor with themesstyles (I use "VS2012-Dark"). The macro feature has saved me hours of work.

Overhyped

Many web developers use ++ as their main editor, which has always had me a bit baffled. There is a load better HTMLtext editors around and with software like Brackets, which is in a different league. It's better than Win notepad and it's free.
