extract text from scanned documents Free OCR to Word enables you to extract the text from scanned documents and export it to MS Word or save it as plain text file. The program can import documents directly via your scanner interface or you can open a previously saved image file and press the OCR button to extract the text content and create an editable document. You can either convert the entire page or only a selected area, which can be very useful if there are images or other, irrelevant, text displayed on the same page. You can preview the OCR results and also edit the text before saving. The text recognition engine appeared to be very accurate, however, depending of the layout and formatting of the original document, you may need to perform some minor editing. Free OCR to Word can export the OCR converted text to MS Word format, however it requires you to have MS Word installed. If you don't have Word installed, you can use the text export or copy/paste the text into a different word processor. The program supports JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF and various other image formats. Brilliant program 5 stars by allan.levine142 Jan 19, 2014
I was so impressed with this program that I felt compelled to share it. Especially as I saw reviews for another similar one where the reviews dissuaded me from trying it. Seeing the positive ones for this program I felt comfortable giving it a go. There is a questionnaire and several offers at the end of the installation which can be declined without a problem. I have loads of typewritten paperwork written before the age of PC's. After scanning them into my PC it was brilliantly easy to load into this program and quickly convert it into text and upload to Word. So far the words I've looked at match exactly what was typed. I really don't know what a paid for version could do better, but I'm really happy with this one. I highly recommend! show Review details

Ive tried other free and paid for OCR types including One Note in office and I have to say, this really did a great job. A few errors expected as with any ocr but this was extremely easy to use, friendly interface, and just works. Great job on this and FREE. show Review details
Very good for a free program 4 stars by ianmacm May 09, 2012 (Read all my 174 reviews)
Having recently had a trial of a well known paid OCR program, I was interested to see how Free OCR to Word performed. The answer is generally very well, and the program is easy to use. The only downside was that it had difficulty with some documents and produced gobbledegook text. This is a common problem with OCR, and no program has solved it entirely. show Review details
