A must have image compressor 5 stars by realbull2009250 Aug 25, 2013 (Read all my 60 reviews)
For graphic or web designers, a good image compression software is an essential tool. RIOT is the best out there. It can be installed to the computer, be portable or installed as plugins for GIMP, XnView and IrfanView. The GUI is decent and understandable, but may confuse or be too much for casual users. It can compress images to jpg, png or gif. There are decent options for each compression. Jpg files are adjusted by compression percentage, and png and gif files are adjusted by color count and color quantization algorithms. With some simple adjustments, one can achieve small sized images with lossless or near lossless quality. The jpg compression calculations are fast, but the png and gif compressions are a little slow, but it depends on the selected options, too. While jpg, png and gif are the most popular images to use, it would be great if more file formats were supported. Personally I like using it as a XnView plugin which gives me easy access to the program. I use XnView to browse through images and select the image I want to compress and then just click-on RIOT icon. Then my image conveniently opens up in RIOT. Give it a try! show Review details
Not bad at all. 4 stars by Grizzly660 Jul 17, 2013 (Read all my 9 reviews)
I have been using this program for awhile now and indeed it does do the job, in fact it does a hell of a job. The only thing I really don't like is the interface, I had to search for it and the buttons are small. I hope the next version the buttons are somewhat of an order. show Review details
Does a great job. 5 stars by oteotd Apr 02, 2013 (Read all my 50 reviews)
This little program is not loaded with features but does a good job for what it is designed to do. Basically you can use this to resample the images and reduce the overall file size keeping the original dimensions of the image. You can see the changes live in a dual pane window before you save the changes. You can also set the output to a different file type if you want to say convert to png from gif. What I use this for is when I have to upload images to places where they will resize the images for you during upload such as facebook, why not just batch resize all at once which is very quick and then your upload time will be much shorter as you have less data to be sent. The program is also portable so you can take it with you on usb drive. show Review details
Not fancy buuttt... 5 stars by gimpguy Aug 07, 2012 (Read all my 1159 reviews)
...it does a great job, better than most I've seen. It doesn't host a million options, actually, very few basic options outside the processing but it's great at what it does. If you want a so-so compression and processing software with lots of flashy (selling options)then this is not it. If you want something to actually do a great job at compressing and processing, then this is what you want. show Review details
So easy 5 stars by Sam_the_Man Nov 06, 2010 (Read all my 54 reviews)
The program does exactly what it's suppose to do. Simply open the photo you want and the program does everything else automatically. You don't do a thing. I like the fact there is no installation required. show Review details
