This is one of many tools but it is nice that with the Zenmap GUI I can visually see how everything on my network is connected. You can also see a list of all the IP's as well but the graphical representation is an added benefit that I really like. The GUI is intuitive for any user to understand what they are looking at. This is definitely a thorough and comprehensive scan. After scanning the network, I found what ports the host machine was using (were open) and all info associated with the host. You have the options to view host or service, Topology and more. I ran the intense scan which by the way doesn't take forever and is very thorough.
