Works, but...kinda slow 3 stars by realbull2009250 Sep 08, 2014 (Read all my 60 reviews)
Bitkiller is not a bad digital shredder. It has the basic shred methods; Write all 0's, Random Data, DOD 3pass, DOD 7pass, Gutman 35pass, but it offers nothing more. The interface is basic Windows GUI, but is very easy to understand and use. It has a drag and drop interface which is missing from other shredders. The weakest point of Bitkiller is that it is slower than other shredders. Compared to some other shredders, it took a 85mb file twice to three times as long to erase (using Gutman 35pass). With other shredders out there that are faster and offer more options, it is hard to recommend this. But if you just need a simple portable shredder to destroy small files then this may be OK for you. It is only at the 1.3v, so I think if the developer continues it, it can become a much improved digital shredder. show Review details
Does the job 3 stars by gimpguy Feb 23, 2014 (Read all my 1159 reviews)
I tested some recovery software on a drive I used BitKiller on and it didn't find anything that was shredded so it does a decent job but there are many others that do the same so it was nothing "spectacular" I guess. Still a good software and free. Testing other methods are very time consuming and for most home users, well, I wouldn't think they would need to go beyond basic overwrite. show Review details
Ok but rather basic 3 stars by ianmacm Feb 23, 2014 (Read all my 174 reviews)
BitKiller works fine and is suitable for carrying around on a pen drive. The features are basic, and it is not possible to preset the desired shredding algorithm, as it starts every time with one pass random, but others are available. Also, although a progress bar appears while shredding files, it does not appear to work or give a numerical indication of the time or percentage remaining, which would be useful for larger files. show Review details
