desktop search tool Copernic Desktop Search allows you to instantly find files, emails, images, multimedia and more, that are located on your PC (not the Internet). The program creates an initial index of your hard drive and provides an easy to use search interface that returns results instantly, as soon as you type in your keyword. The results are categorized by file type and include image thumbnails for picture matches as well as highlighted keywords in the document preview. Copernic Desktop Search can also (optionally) index your web surfing history, as well as Contacts and Favorites. As a regular user of pro version 5, must admit that CDS6 feels more like an alpha at this stage of the game. One is left with the impression that they've followed the Microsoft tactic of imposing themselves based on reputation. Cannot recommend this version (free or paid). show Review details

I was using v2 and "upgraded" to new "Home" version (v3). The new version seems to be a downgrade (i.e. removed features) on V2 so I uninstalled it and reloaded V2. The new "home" version should provide at least the same functionality and more whilst remaining free. Main features missing: Customisable preview pane, search as you type, ability to save searches. CDS v2 is, in my opinion, the best free desktop search tool, the new Home version (v3) isn't !!! show Review details

Just what was needed with more bells and whistles than I would expect for a free program. This lets you monitor your hard drive to ensure that you have what you think you have and nothing more. When space gets tight on your old HD, all of the extra stuff you don't need is easy to find with this. show Review details
