HiBit Uninstaller HiBit Uninstaller

Has dark mode view and font sizing! 5 stars
Long time Revo Uninstaller user here, but as my eyes get worse with age I wanted a program with a dark screen and larger fonts. Unavailable, seemingly, in Revo or Absolute or Geek. This has both. Dark under ToolsThemes. I couldn't find anything about fonts under Tools. But then, voila, just the old CTRL-scroll to change font sizes. Fantastic. What's more, a great set of Tools and a deep clean scanclean of program crumbs, like Revo. Price: Free

Vivaldi Vivaldi

Good but too many updates 4 stars
If you're like me and want to update your software before it interrupts your workflow with its auto-updating 'feature', you'll soon find the updates are coming too fast. A few every month. Otherwise a pretty good browser. Price: Free

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

Latest deletes stuff 3 stars
I used to swear by this soft, even paid for the Pro. But on the last scan it actually deleted stuff from my drive without asking for a Quarantine or other choices, like it had before. I had backup installers and a full backup anyway. But please! Never again. Price: Free

LibreOffice LibreOffice

Uses too much disk space 3 stars
Sure, use this fine office suite if you don't mind using nearly half a gig of disk space. If you just need a Word replacement I suggest Atlantis. If you need a full office I suggest Softmaker. Price: Free

NirLauncher NirLauncher

What's updated? great password retrieval 4 stars
I just wish, since there are maybe 100 tiny utilities in this package, that Nir Sofer would tell us which one(s)he's updated in him monthly dump. That said... In case for any reason your brain or browser doesn't remember your credentials (brand new browser?) this is your rescue. Just know that many anti-malware programs will ID and quarantine the password stuff in this. So you better know how to whitelist inside your security programs. Price: Free

Everything Everything

Best search, even better with advanced search 5 stars
Using for several years for basic sortable (name/path/size/extension/date) filename search, recently I was telling a friend that it only missed being able to search for more than one word in the name. For instance Beep AND Boop AND .gif NOT Bee. As we spoke I found this capability under Search/Advanced Search. Price: Free

Pale Moon Pale Moon

Does Not import your existing extensions and bookm 2 stars
Not only did it NOT import during the installation, it seemed to have NO facility for importing other than bookmarking one's manually opened Firefox "bookmarks.html", and for extensions and themes only a one-by-one open/install (if you know how to find them). If you want a FF clone that does import everything on install, try Waterfox. PM does run fine otherwise and is free and also free of some of the cruft FF imposes. Price: Free

WizTree WizTree

It does have a graphical space display 5 stars
Maybe a previous version was missing a "graphical space analyzer" display, but this one has it. AND when you click into one of its space boxes the list view populates with the files. Nothing more to add to the excellent reviews here. Price: Free

TweakPower TweakPower

Good for system restore, but warning 2 stars
After running this once, I emailed the developer: I tried out your Tweakpower 1.003 and I really liked how it presented various operations. I especially liked how it gave easy access to System Restore, both making a new one and deleting old ones. That was great! However, I don't recall giving permission for it to start with my Win7. Some other utility alerted me to a new startup item. I didn't like that. Then after I 'quarantined' the offensive startup, now the exe won't run. Apparently it relies on that startup item. I like that even less. Please consider a different approach. He replied, but just with a terse Thanks, implying this was all by design. One final warning, I noticed after running it that my Win7 Folder Options were changed by this. I keep most of my folders in Details view. This changed all of those to Icons view. Good luck! Revo Uninstaller Revo Uninstaller

Why don't developers give a useful name 4 stars
Like so many other downloads here (NOT Snapfile's fault) the link reads revosetup.exe -- This is coming from the developer. So why not Revo Uninstaller 2.05.exe ? Do they not archive their versions with useful names? I have the last version's installer archived as Revo Uninstaller 2.04.exe -- This is so I can sensibly revert if needed. But also, having just revosetup then forces me to rename the file as Revo Uninstaller 2.05.exe The fact that it's named revosetup seems lazy. At least it has revo in the name instead of just "re". What's that file I downed a few days ago? Re? Price: Free

SysGauge SysGauge

Great UI for understanding one's system 5 stars
Very easy to understand real-time monitoring tools in a single small package. But in the System Analyzer panel it identifies KeyScramber (running) as an Error with "Number of handles is too high". Is that a feature or a bug? But keep up the good work! Price: Free

Wouldn't import from dashlane or roboform 2 stars
I know, it didn't say it would but since it does do some other imports I gave it a try. No, it wouldn't import from Dashlane or RoboForm. I don't see any advantage to Buttercup either,so I don't want to start over with passwords. Price: Free

1by1 1by1

Try the extra toolbars 4 stars
I love 1by1, but wasn't too happy with the default toolbar. So... Toolbar button image sets. I happen to like the one named 7Orfeo7English : Put this 7Orfeo7English.bmp graphic file in the same folder as 1by1.exe If you view the file first, don't worry about the bright fuschia color. Once installed, it's a transparent grey background. Then, running 1by1, open Settings (F6) and go to ControlToolbar. You should see this 7Orfeo7English.bmp listed under Button Style on the right as an option. Choose it. I also like to choose Big View on the left. Close and restart 1by1. Price: Free

AOMEI Backupper Standard AOMEI Backupper Standard

Cannot go wrong with this, worth every penny 5 stars
Been using it for years as insurance. Even though it has many options I always just use the C boot backup. I save the image 2 places: internal HD #two and external USB drive. It's saved my Win7 PC from a couple of bad crashes over the years, and I used it to restore my favored Win7 after an "upgrade" to Win10 on a new SSD boot drive. The best! So good I paid for the Pro. Trellix Stinger (McAfee Stinger) Trellix Stinger (McAfee Stinger)

Update every day! why can't it update itself? 1 stars
This seems to update practically every day, taking up precious screen and mental turf. Why can't it update itself as so many other utilities do? Or just prompt the user that an update is available? This almost spoils the Snapfiles experience. Price: Free

Firefox Extension Backup (FEBE) Firefox Extension Backup (FEBE)

Great granular restore of profile items 5 stars
As a long-time FEBE user I would caution new users who want to use its one-click Restore-a-profile. Your FF is booted into a FF profile, and you've saved the profile using FEBE, so then FEBE can't restore to that same profile. I guess you could create a new profile, install FEBE into it, then Restore the previously saved profile into the new one. Not sure. I use MozBackup for full restores. I use FEBE to export everything and then be able to do local, no-net-needed, re-installs of extensions, plugs, marks, themes etc. Also, when it finishes a backup it creates a GREAT html page of all the stuff. Be sure to save a copy where you can easily find it. Price: Free

Soda Player Soda Player

No settings, prefs, options; no subtitles 1 stars
This player worked ok for streaming a torrent once I managed to arrange my browser window to be able to 'drop' a link into Soda. So yes it does that. BUT, I couldn't find any Settings/Prefs/Options menu or button. There was a volume slider and a full-screen button. And the only Subtitles function was to load an already saved SRT, I thought it could search for subs. Then, I went to their site to get help or an email link. NADA. Price: Free

Plex Media Server Plex Media Server

Its db mixed up my videos, photos and music 2 stars
For me (YMMV) this latest v1.3.3.3148 from Jan 20, 2017 didn't correctly identify my local media in my folders I pointed it at - videos, photos, music. It did allow me to do the pointing to these folders on my media storage drive, without complaint, good. But then when browsing on the Win7 PC or on the big TV, the videos folder was full of photos and music as well, a mishmash of media. Same thing when viewing the photos or music folders. Thank god it didn't touch my actual files, it just built its own database wrong. Maybe it would work better if you have the default My Photos etc on C. Or maybe it's a result of the Plex program insisting on a libraries and playlist model, like iTunes, instead of being user-folders oriented. No such problem with Serviio, flawless in that regard. The other problem, more of a small annoyance, is that when first run nothing showed up on the Win7 Taskbar except a tray icon. Popping that and opening PLEX, nothing happened. It turns out one has to not only have a Plex online 'account', but one has to be logged in there, and then the UI works. It's all in the browser. No such problem with Serviio. Price: Free

Maxthon Maxthon

I reverted to good old v4.9.4.1000 3 stars
Firefox user here, but I like to keep other browsers installed for special functions. Maxthon is good for viewing embedded instagram stuff and certain other ultra-modern share-to-"Social" link icons. But after this v5 I reverted to good old v4.9.4.1000 - Search "Maxthon Cloud Browser 4.9.4.1000" Price: Free

Microsoft OneDrive Microsoft OneDrive

Preserves date created!! good android too. 5 stars
I tried Google Drive and Dropbox for my folder of thousands of photos. OneDrive preserved the Date Created (unlike GD or DB), so then one can effectively sort by Date. The others tag everything by date uploaded, fine for fresh content but lousy for a large existing collection. OneDrive also works very well for syncing onto an Android phone with the OneDrive Android app. MS got it right! Price: Free

Waterfox Waterfox

The best of the firefox clones, but! 5 stars
Waterfox does a great job of auto-importing one's FF Profile, and then runs complex web pages a bit faster (it seems, for me). All good so far. BUT, next time I ran standard FF 45.01 my "about:config" "xpinstall.signatures.required", tweaked to a 'false' toggle, it was reset to the default 'true'. This results in some unsigned extensions not working. For me the obvious one was my Speed Dial home page, which still oddly worked in W'fox but not in FF. I had to go into the FF about:config and toggle it to false. Who knows what other tweaks it may have reset? Price: Free

WinPatrol (Free Edition) WinPatrol (Free Edition)

This puppy is your faithful watchdog 5 stars
Not every INTRUSIVE program is a virus or malware or even identified as a PUP, potentially unwanted program. Many are innocent of any bad intentions, they just want to install some service they need into your start-ups. To them it's innocent. But if you want to either PREVENT this, or Allow this TEMPORARILY, or just browse through a list of all your startups now and then to enable or disable (that's right, it keeps the disabled ones in the list) then this puppy is your faithful watchdog. SafeIP SafeIP

Easy-peasy ip changer 5 stars
Easy as pie to select a different Location, which gives your pc a different IP, for privacy. I checked with a couple of Check IP websites and it works. Hint, follow their suggestions and pick a location nearby your intended server. In the case of torrents from users all over, I guess just pick a locale with the desired language. Price: Free

Multi Commander Multi Commander

Maybe the best 2-pane ui 5 stars
On first use, VERY VERY nice 2-pane explorer replacement. I've tried many, and the first things I look for are two abilities: toggle the list/details font SIZE Up for my 1920w monitor and old eyes. CHECK! And then, I like to mix list/details Folder names and File names (instead of separate at top-bottom). CHECK! These are both in Config/ExplorerPanel/Settings/Display. I also like the multitude of handy Buttons along the bottom, Calculate Folder Size(s) right at the top of the Tools menu, and alternate color striping in list/details view. It looks like a keeper! MusicBee MusicBee

Musicbee and 1by1 are the ones! 5 stars
I have thousands of songs already organized into Win7 folders. Both MusicBee and 1by1 saw the folders as they are and didn't fiddle with any unwanted re-organization or worse. That's my number one requirement in music players. Leave my collection alone, get off my lawn!! Sound of course matters but I cannot distinguish. When I just want to hear some tunes I use 1by1 but when I want lots of extras with a sophisticated UI it's Musicbee. Price: Free

LastPass LastPass

Fail import, fail install, fail support 1 stars
During the install of this on Win7 you'll come to a point where it will ask you if you want to proceed AND ERASE ALL LOCAL PASSWORDS ON YOUR SYSTEM. Figuring, ok, I have BACKUPS, why not then allow my pws to exist on their encrypted server instead? I guess that might be ok, but then after ok'ing it, the installer's next step was to Import my passwords. OK, seems logical, but then the usual green progess bar would just burp at the seeming end and restart itself, over and over, for half an hour. I finally used the Task Manager to break out of the process. Then, logging into the LP site, I can see that my passwords are in their Vault. Good, ok, but because I broke the installer process it never got to the point of installing a Firefox or IE add-on, nor did it erase my non-secured passwords. Without LP running, my Fox still will auto-fill my credentials. I'm not sure how bad that is, but whatever functions the add-ons ADD are not there. I looked around the LP site for add-ons installers but no go. I emailed the LP folks but they're busy with supporting paying users, no reply. Obviously this works well for most, but I just got fed up and uninstalled it. Price: Free

Perfect launcher! 5 stars
Been using this for years with no problems such as Gimpguy mentioned in 2012. for me it runs in under 29 megs. no slowdowns. maybe it's because i keep the eye-candy at a minimum, no animations, no sounds. YMMV but i highly recommend this dock. Price: Free

Opera Opera

Annoying, set as default browser, opens full 2 stars
This late May 2016 Opera37.0.2178.43 release immediately annoyed me because it set itself as my Win7 Default Browser, didn't ask, no notice given. The easy way out was running Firefox again, and it asked, as is polite. The other minor trivial annoyance was opening in full screen. Why do they assume that? I uninstalled it, maybe better next time. Price: Free

Ant Movie Catalog Ant Movie Catalog

Imported my text list of movie titles! 4 stars
I've tried a few different movie catalog programs and settled on this one because only it could import my long text list of movie titles, then automagically run them through IMDB and generate an AMC Catalog including all the info one could want. After that I could just add one at a time as other programs are also able to do. Also, the developer was very responsive to my email requests for Help at the time. Price: Free

WebBrowserPassView WebBrowserPassView

Works great! Unsure about security 5 stars
This will definitely show you every password stored by all the browsers you've ever used, even browsers you've uninstalled. Extremely useful! But in a way it's an eye-opener about all the unencrypted info on your drive(s)and how easy it may be for an intruder to extract. If an intruder could find the data just from this program they could stop looking... Price: Free
